The Steps That Determine Whether It Lasts

Heating installation has less room for interpretation than cooling does. Gas equipment involves combustion, venting and safety interlocks, and the manufacturer specifies exactly what correct looks like. The problem is that most of those specifications are verified by measurement, and measurement takes time that a rushed install skips.

We install to the specification and then document it: gas manifold pressure set with a manometer, temperature rise measured across the heat exchanger and blower speed adjusted to land within the nameplate range, venting sized and pitched correctly, combustion air confirmed, and carbon monoxide tested in the living space before we leave.

You receive the startup readings in writing. If a future technician ever needs to know what this system looked like when it was new and correct, that document is the baseline — and it is also your evidence that the work was done properly if a warranty question ever arises.

Heating Options for Valley Homes

Our short heating season changes which of these makes sense, and it is worth choosing deliberately rather than defaulting to whatever was there before.

Gas Furnaces

Fast recovery and hot supply air for homes with existing gas service. In our climate an 80% AFUE furnace is frequently the rational choice, because the payback period on a condensing furnace stretches long when the system only runs a few weeks a year.

Heat Pumps

One system that heats and cools, and the most efficient option for the mild Valley winter. The default recommendation for homes without gas service, and increasingly the better economics even for homes that have it.

Heat Pump Services

Dual Fuel Systems

A heat pump paired with a gas furnace, switching to gas below a set outdoor temperature. The most efficient configuration available, and worth the premium mainly on larger homes.

Electric Air Handlers

Paired with a heat pump, with electric heat strips for backup and rapid recovery. Simple, no combustion, no venting, no gas line — and no combustion safety concerns.

Ductless Mini Split Heat Pumps

The right answer for garages, casitas, additions and historic homes without duct space. Heat and cool a single room independently with a three-inch wall penetration.

Zoning and Controls

Two-story homes lose the heating battle in reverse of the cooling one. Dampered zoning and properly configured smart thermostats let each floor hold its own setpoint instead of averaging into discomfort.

How a Heating Install Runs

    Heating Load Calculation

    A Manual J calculation determines actual heating capacity required, which in the Valley is nearly always smaller than people expect and often smaller than the equipment being replaced. Oversizing heating equipment produces short cycles, temperature swings and premature component wear.

    Venting and Combustion Air Design

    Vent material, diameter, length, pitch and termination all follow the manufacturer instructions and code. Condensing furnaces need entirely different venting and a condensate path. Combustion air supply is verified rather than assumed — a common oversight when a furnace lives in a tight closet.

    Gas Line and Electrical

    Gas line sizing is checked against total appliance demand, not just the new unit, and lines are pressure tested. Electrical is brought to code with proper disconnect and circuit sizing. If your panel cannot support electric heat strips, we identify that before you commit, not on install day.

    Duct Connection and Airflow

    The plenum transition is built and sealed rather than taped together, static pressure is measured, and blower speed is set to deliver the airflow the equipment needs. A furnace connected to restrictive ducts overheats and fails early no matter how good the furnace is.

Straight Answers About Heating Installs

Do I need a permit for a new furnace installation in Phoenix?

Yes. Valley municipalities require a mechanical permit for heating installation and replacement, and gas appliance work is inspected for venting and combustion safety. We pull the permit and coordinate inspection.

Can you add heating to a home that has none?

Yes — a common project on older Valley homes, casitas, converted garages and additions. Depending on the space and whether gas service exists, the answer is usually a heat pump, an electric air handler with heat strips, or a ductless mini split.

What is temperature rise and why does it matter?

It is the difference between return and supply air temperature across the furnace, and every furnace has a specified range on its nameplate. Too low and it short cycles; too high and it overheats and eventually cracks the heat exchanger. We measure it and set blower speed accordingly.

How long does heating installation take?

One day for a straightforward install where ductwork, venting and gas already exist. New venting, gas line, ductwork or a first-time system typically runs two to four days.

Do you install heating in garages and casitas?

Yes. Detached and semi-detached spaces are usually best served by a ductless mini split heat pump, which delivers heating and cooling from one small system without tying into the house. See our mini split page.
